JUST WHEN the pandemic is changing everything we do, here's Moschino presenting a new opportunity: a more sophisticated use of couture and craftsmanship. At the ongoing Milan Fashion Week, the brand presented its Spring-Summer 2021 collection with no guests . . . and no models.
Instead, Moschino's creative director Jeremy Scott collaborated with Jim Henson's Creature Shop to create a short film presenting the fashion show with—get this—marionettes. Garments and accessories were ingenuously shrunk to fit the puppets. The "audience" included New York Times critic Vanessa Friedman and Vogue editors Anna Wintour, Edward Enninful, and Hamish Bowles. Scott himself was featured as a marionette in the film, with a crown and Moschino T-shirt.
Fashion shows have always been magical and whimsical. Moschino's delightful SS21 presentation will always be remembered for taking the magic and the whimsy to a different level of enchantment.
